Slow-fashion or slow wear is gaining momentum in France. It's a new mode of eco-responsible consumption that invites you to rethink your dressing room with a fair trade wardrobe, ethical fashion, sustainable fashion and a fashion industry 100% made in France! The production of clothing and accessories, from sweatshirts to socks and jewelry, for both men and women, must be rethought and remodeled to meet new needs.
We no longer produce for the simple purpose of producing and consuming, but we adopt basic and organic clothing that lasts over time and created from fair trade fabrics.
Le Vent à la Française is part of this new consumer trend. These are values that are dear to us and that we claim with great pride.
Discover our vision of slow-wear to better understand the passion that drives us.
Why take an interest in slow-fashion?
Buying clothes, pants, sweaters, sweatshirts, underwear, socks, t-shirts, skirts, coats or jerseys is essential. It corresponds to an essential need, that of dressing oneself, of hiding one's nudity, of protecting oneself from cold and heat.
But it is also a way of asserting one's own identity. When some are chic, others like to dress in a more casual style. Fashion must-haves, basics like long sleeves or jeans, are the delight of clothing brands. Women's fashion and men's fashion generate a colossal turnover each year. 40 billion for the year 2018.
But if this basic need is necessary for us, it has a disastrous ecological impact. There are countless chemicals needed to design certain parts. Clothes are partly responsible for the environmental collapse of our blue planet.
If “fast-fashion” clothes are synonymous with low prices, they are above all synonymous with pollution…
The current model of the textile industry, a dangerous mode of consumption?
Yes. The answer is clear and indisputable. Manufacturing and manufacturing brands in the textile sector are very polluting and dangerous for our planet. The current consumption model is polluting and the cheap clothing factory plays in the heavyweight category in terms of carbon impact!
According to an article in Le Parisien , we discover without too much surprise that the sector is ranked 5th in greenhouse gas emissions and 2nd for land use.
For fabrics such as denim, for example, which is used to make jeans, cotton fields occupy entire territories and pollute the soil enormously. But these famous jeans that sit in the majority of our closets are mass produced. 2.3 billion per year worldwide! Clothing, and in particular jeans, is one of the products that travels the most miles. No wonder then that the carbon footprint is so impressive in the textile sector.
Investing in a new consumption model
Before plunging into a deep state of depression, know that there is very good news in this story! Yes, yes, it's true !
- The first is that in the textile sector, the possibilities for greatly reducing our carbon impact and polluting less are very numerous.
- The second is that French youth are aware of the disaster that has begun and the consequences to come. She reacts and takes initiatives to change things. This is the case for many French brands created in recent years. For LeVent à la Française , it is a great pride to be part of the team and to allow, at our level, to make things happen.
Fashion is surfing on a new trend that is more respectful of the environment: slow-wear
What is slow-fashion or slow-wear?
Slow-fashion is a model opposed to the one we know today, fast-fashion, this unbridled consumption: overconsumption. We always produce more, we always buy more and end up throwing away always more.
The production engages disastrous effects for our planet to end up finally abandoned in the back of a closet or thrown in the trash. It was already not very happy to know all that entails the production of a single pair of jeans, but to think that all this is ultimately completely useless… it is even more heartbreaking.
The main principles:
The first thing is first of all to curb a little his ardor in terms of purchase. We avoid compulsive buying and shopping for shopping.
Then we choose the quality. No cut-price t-shirts or tank tops to fray after 3 washes. The goal is of course to keep your clothes as long as possible. Opt for sustainable, sourced and ethical materials (organic cotton, recycled raw materials, etc.) and prefer basic ones. They are timeless and can be worn on all occasions.
Slow-fashion is also about promoting the short and local circuit. Made in France is therefore essential, that's good, we are good in France to offer you very nice quality things!
And there you say to yourself… goodbye to new clothes, I'm condemned to durable basics until the end of time!
Rest assured, the pleasure of ready-to-wear and fashion is still relevant and slow-wear can also be trendy. Shopping sprees are not banned forever. You simply have to take the time to read the labels, to turn to items made in France, fair trade and ecological raw materials. And rather than throwing away your old clothes, consider recycling them.
If they are still in very good condition, you can sell them on Vinted, in thrift stores or even drop them off at a relay point or in an association like Emmaüs.
If your clothes are too worn, then do not throw them away and put them in the Relais collection points. They will be recycled to give these fabrics a second life: thermal and sound insulation, felt, padding, stationery, furniture flocking, upholstery, etc.
Made in France and slow-fashion, 2 concepts, 1 common objective
Made in France
Made in France is controlled local production. It fits perfectly into the slow-fashion approach.
Creating clothes and accessories for men and women and enabling you to consume better is the challenge we have set ourselves at LeVent à la Française.
The objective here is twofold:
- Preserve employment in France and unique know-how: this is the case for many companies with which we work. To promote this know-how, the State has set up a special label, living heritage. Companies listed as Living Heritage are companies that have mastered an ancient, rare and prestigious art. It's a bit like the excellence of made in France!
- Control each stage of the design to reduce the environmental impact. We trust our partners, they share our values. The passion that drives them makes them fervent defenders of their French know-how, but also of a more responsible mode of consumption.
Le Vent à la Française’s vision of slow-fashion
Slow-fashion: local production!
Through fairs such as the made in France fair in Paris (MIFexpo), we have been able to establish contacts with companies that guarantee sometimes very old know-how. This is the 5th generation for Jean-Damien at the head of Gauthier son for example. This company braids the cords of our bracelets.
At Le Vent à la Française, our pride lies in the choice of our partners. We want to promote a circular economy and preserve employment in France.

France is a multidisciplinary industrial territory. We have precious craftsmanship in many French regions, and have done so for centuries. The jewelery sector can be manufactured in France as a whole. Elegant, organic and fair trade jewelry, without going through foreign subcontractors, is a line of conduct that we have been able to maintain since the creation of our brand.
If these ethical accessories made in France exist today it is largely thanks to you. You gave us this wind of inspiration and we followed your desires. The result is worth it and we are very proud of it.
At Le Vent à la Française we produce French AND eco-friendly
We wanted to go further in our environmental approach, which is why we also recently offered a collection of eco-responsible bracelets.
Our objective: to be from one end of the chain to the other more respectful of the environment.
Finally, the last step of our project, we want a durable piece of jewelry. Slow-fashion is the possibility of making fashion last! This is why our bracelet cords are guaranteed for life.
The top-of-the-range manufacture that we offer allows you to guarantee comfort of use and to wear your bracelet in all your activities.
If after many years of good and loyal service, the uses of time have left traces on your cord, you can return the bracelet to us so that we can recycle it and we will send you a new cord.
The coin is a medal that can never wear out. It acquires a patina over time and gains prestige around your wrist.
